[SCS Inc.] has become the first OCTAVESM Transition Partner Licensed by Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) Software Engineering Institute (SEI) to both teach and deliver the Operationally Critical Threat, Asset, and Vulnerability Evaluation methodology (OCTAVE). The OCTAVE method defines an approach to information security risk evaluation that is comprehensive, systematic, context driven with direct input from the organization. It provides a framework for collecting, analyzing, collating, and then evaluating, interpreting, and summarizing the data, such that judicious risk mitigation strategies can be developed. Using a formalized process designed to elicit the required information in a manner that accounts for and is sensitive to the business contexts in which these risks exist, we can provide our clients with a comprehensive understanding of their information security risks and strategic plan to mitigate those risks. The OCTAVE Process enables an organization to baseline itself to the CMU SEI developed list of best practices for information security. With the completion of an Octave assessment an organization knows were it stands relative to information security issues and has the information, capability, and understanding required to proactively plan, with respect to its information security risks.
